JENSIZED LAST ACTIVITY IN MEMPHIS TOWN

So yeah.

I've been neglectful of this space for the past week or so because, well, it's that time of year. I've been caught in the end-of-semester bustle, finishing my webdesign final project and getting ready for exams on Monday -- I can't even put into words how glad I'll be when that's over.

I've also been making a little time for my old friends, the Midtown bar scene. Piper and Stevan have been playing a weekly at the Beauty Shop on Monday nights, and we checked that out this week. I was surprised to see a nice little crowd in there, with some good music and good energy. Then I made my triumphant return to the Hi-Tone Tuesday beer bust, because it was my boss's first DJing experience outside of Dish. Wednesday night, of course, was White Trash Wednesday, and last night I stuck around late at work to have a few beers with some friends.

I'm not too fond of the whole "extreme spending" aspect of the holiday season, but I definitely don't mind the abundance of things to do every night of the week. Tomorrow night Harlan's playing at the Hi-Tone and I honestly don't think I've seen him play since either a) before the Glass Onion closed or b) since the Tsunami Benefit. I hope I'm exaggerating and have forgotten some night over the summer, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get out of work in time tomorrow.

All in vain, though, because after the November drought, work's been busy. Lucrative, sure, but busy. We've got DJs five nights a week now (as opposed to four before, so I don't even know why I considered that a big deal)-- I don't know if it's the music or the season that's helping business, but I still can't remember what a weekend feels like.

Anyway, does anybody even take the Grammys seriously anymore? First of all, there are about a billion categories. Second of all, most of the nominees are a joke. Except in the "alternative" category....although Beck's probably gonna win.

"...most of the nominees are a joke."
I note, however, that Kraftwerk has been nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album (Minimum-Maximum). That nomination is definitely not a joke; however, since there is no justice on Earth, they probably won't win.
Still, I saw them last June in Chicago.... That's enough to make my year.

I don't even care about the Grammy's. It's just marketing ploys and them thanking themselves. Whoopie.

Agreed totally. The albums that actually have artistic merit and deserve to win get overlooked for the big sellers like Mariah Carey and Green Day. But that seems to be the trouble with pop music these days in general.

Insert two cents here:
