One month in: New blog, new business cards

By | January 6, 2012

A month ago today I found out I was getting laid off. I’ll have to verify with my mom, but I’m pretty sure this is the longest I’ve been unemployed since I quit my part-time job as a trophy engraver at age 19. I slept for about three weeks straight until my mom forced me to go make myself useful. In my defense, it was the beginning of summer break and I had catching up to do.

Coincidentally, my box of moo cards arrived today. So adorable, so cheap. When I was employed, I had thousands of business cards that I rarely gave out. Yet I plan on needing more of these, unless the Job Fairy pays me a visit. It’s hard to decide what to put on a business card when you don’t have a job title. “Person of the internet” felt so much more appropriate, but I do want to be taken seriously.

Also in commemoration of this month of regrouping I’ve finally launched my job blog, Hired. It’s a joint effort with my dad, who picked up a goldmine of career knowledge during his own transition several years ago. He’s a chemist, and I’m pretty much allergic to science. So I’m excited for this rare opportunity to collaborate, despite the circumstances. I’ll be posting all my job search updates there from now on. If you want to add it to your reader, here’s the feed URL.
