Phil Collins, bringing the people together.

Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” came on while I was waiting in line at the bank today.
I don’t know a single person who doesn’t like that song – or at least who doesn’t spontaneously burst into air drums during what’s probably the most recognizable drum break ever (about 3:18 in). What I witnessed at the bank today just further proved that.
There was this guy behind me in the line, dressed in standard-issue Memphis thug gear: untied white sneakers, baggy pants resting somewhere between his hips and his knees, white tee. And he was singing along. He knew every word. It was as though the sounds of Phil Collins inspired him to let his guard down, forget about lookin’ hard and FEEL that something in the air. It really was special.

Well, I know it’s not (apparently) about watching somebody drown.
